Facebook: Using Facebook is Informed Consent

I had to blog this. Facebook modified the news feeds of hundreds of thousands of users to see if they could make them more happy or unhappy. And contrary to standard research practice, they say they didn't need to ask permission. I'm definitely more unhappy.

Facebook messed with the news feeds of hundreds of thousands of users, seeing if they could make them feel more positively or negatively. Some researchers say the company violated one of the basic tenets of studying real people.

Lagoon Chinese Restaurant

In album 6/19/14

Today's unexpected lunch venue was this Chinese restaurant in a budget hotel (Pacific Marina Inn) in an odd corner of town (near Keehi Lagoon). This is a new location for this business, and a cute one for sure. Lots of counter take out business and a few tables in a narrow dining room.

We were told the boneless minute chicken on cake noodle was popular. We had it on soft noodles and it was still yummy. Our guide also said the ginger sauce for the cold ginger kitchen is fantastic… so we paid $0.75 just to get a little cup of it to add to our meal. I'm not a ginger fan, but it was delicious! And overall, the prices and service were good.

It has the feel of a hidden gem, and we hope to go back to see if the label fits!
