Jurassic World a Solid Sequel

In album 6/15/15

Before heading out yesterday to see "Jurassic World," I sat the family down to watch the original "Jurassic Park" from 1993. The kids were reluctant at first, but I think even two decades late they could feel the magic of that first film. "Jurassic World" was a lot of fun, and I was delighted to see more Hawaii scenery than I originally expected, but it was still just the best sequel to the true masterpiece.

There is a lot — perhaps too much, even — in "Jurassic World" that ties back to the original film, and it's worth a rewatch.

Taking in $208.8 million on its opening weekend, "Jurassic World" now has the "top grossing movie debut of all time" crown. At least until December.

Solar Impulse Pauses Historic Hawaii Flight

I was in the middle of writing about the Solar Impulse plane's departure from China yesterday, kicking off a 5,000-mile solar-powered flight to Hawaii, when the team announced that the plane would be diverted to Japan. Touchdown in Nagoya is in a few hours, and there will likely be a few days of delay as the mission recalibrates and resumes.
